Paul W. Rankin (b. 1984, Australia) is a screenwriter, short film director, video artist, and hobbyist programmer.
His artistic practice focuses on themes of perception and awe. Working in live performance and installation, he uses layered video imagery created using physical effects to generate a tension between the abstract and representational.
He has collaborated with artists including Lawrence English, Jamie Stewart, Norman Westberg, I Heart Hiroshima, and Heinz Riegler, and his work has featured in Dark Mofo, Carriageworks, Metro Arts, IMA, Queensland Art Gallery and La Trobe Art Collection.
He has written feature screenplays on spec and on assignment for the US and Australian markets. His screenwriting focuses on subverting high-concept genre conventions and archetypes to tell stories of the human condition.
He also maintains several open source software projects for writers, including the Emacs screenwriting program Fountain Mode.
